Second Place in the Antiques Roadshow Top Ten Items

Formerly the most valuable appraisal to ever appear on the US broadcast of the Antiques Roadshow, but knocked into 2nd place in January 2009, this hand-woven Navajo Ute First Phase wearing blanket is a representation of the very beginnings of Navajo textile creation. This national treasure sat on the back of a chair for generations.

  5. Good for him.

  6. if this doesn’t bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat, then you’re just not human.

  7. Even though this is not my fav roadshow item (I’m a jewelry hound lol), It’s by far my fav story!!! Good for him!

  8. I do believe a Detroit area museum purchased the blanket for $635,000… They had just opened a native american exhibition and it was to be one of their center pieces

  9. In terms of the story and personality behind the owner, this is by far the best appraisal video of the top 10. You can’t even imagine, you live your whole life then some guy says, “You have a national treasure”. Then it hits him. I would give quite a lot to just sit on his porch, have a cold drink and hear his stories.

  12. I’m sorry it’s taken so long to respond to your comment, but I just came across it. You were wondering hat had happened to the blanket and the guy who owned it:

I read an article about it from PBS. The Antiques Roadshow had a segment on their site called “Follow the story” about Ken, his wife, and the blanket. I haven’t been able to find it since, but from what I can recall, they sold it to a museum for close to $700k and purchased their retirement home. It was a really touching story.

  13. Oh, me, too! When the man got choked up, I started to get a little teary, too. :)

  14. Why do U.K. people always make such ignorant, blanket assumptions?

  15. I’m glad this guy didn’t have a heart attack :O
