Do you understand the difference between racist humor and racial humor?

I frequently see people attack comedians like Dave Chappelle and Paul Mooney as “racist” (rather than racial) comedians.

Racist humor uses detrimental and oppressive stereotypes which reinforce the political and social power of a dominant class, while racial humor is simply commenting on this inequity.

Do you understand the difference? If so, why do you think so many people can’t see the difference?

Because they don’t take the time to understand what really is and isn’t.

Because many people feel that even the discussion of race is an example of racism, which is of course, not true.
It is a taboo subject.

They are afraid to talk about race, because they are afraid of being considered racist. I think they just don’t understand the subject.

I understand the difference but…i think its better not to deal with this kind of humor that creates confusion.I like to do jokes about my own race or religion,but only with people who knows my non-racist ideology

if you look for racism , you’ll find it. If you don’t, and it hits you as racist, you should respect your reaction.

I think that most people do understand the difference. But people like to whine about things and get attention because they know they can. Some people think that if any type of comment pertaining to race is uttered, they can yell “racist” and get something out of it. I really don’t think that people are that dumb. They just want to make a big deal out of things that are not…. and this is a big part of what’s holding us back.

I understand the difference and I think that it is more about peoples discomfort with the use of racial terminology first and foremost. Many cannot get past that to really hear what Dave chappelle and Paul Mooney are saying.

Who care as long as it is funny… if you make a Black joke, you are a racist, if you make an Asian joke, you are a racist, if you make a Hispanic joke, you are a racist, if you make a Iraq joke, you are a racist, if you make a joke about women, you are discriminating women, if you make a fat joke, you are prejudice against overweight people….so screw them all, have a sense of humor and stop whining.
