Sometimes “false” is good in a world of collectors. There are examples of “artificial” Marble made of pure white marble with marble skillfully painted as a model. Cheap wood grain is milled. Jewelry is made with foil backed glass that looked like diamonds. All these “false” can be valuable today. One of the most interesting use of substitute materials derived from the late 19th century. Asian ideas then influenced designers, and bamboo furniture became popular. But bamboo is soft and flexible and not strong enough for large, heavy pieces.
